Diet Saboteurs?

From Denise Austin this morning:

Diet Saboteurs?

Is someone in your life — your spouse, your mother, or a friend — secretly sabotaging your efforts to lose weight and get fit? There are many reasons it happens, from fearing you'll change if your appearance changes, to wanting to avoid facing their own weight issues, to feelings of jealousy.

If you learn to recognize it when it's happening, you'll be much less likely to derail from your goal! When a coworker who knows you're dieting brings in home-baked cookies, politely (but firmly) say no. When your spouse tries to talk you out of exercising to go get a burger and fries instead, offer to spend time with him or her after your workout — doing something besides eating. When someone makes a derogatory remark about how they think you've changed since losing weight, just chalk it up to envy rather than letting negative comments get you down! Bottom line — even if the changes you're making don't make everyone happy, give yourself permission to make them anyway! You're worth it!

oooh, I know those people! They're my sister, one of my daughters, and a few of my friends. They're sure I'm never going to lose a pound because THEY feel more secure and less threatened by fat me than a healthy me.

I think that I am my own diet saboteur. I think I am the one who secretly does not want to be thin. Can that be?

Lucky for me, no one is trying to sabotage my efforts - not this time. I woudl say in the past when I lost weight, that definitely happened. For some reason people have a harder time a handling the change...it's just weight, get over it and help me be healthy!

Just found your blog & it looks good. All the best w/ your test -- looks like we're in almost the same boat -- I've been married 21 years, HS 2 girls (oldest has graduated) - grades 12 & 9 this year...& the "prep" stuff reminded me of my colonoscopy in the spring!!! Wasn't that bad afterall! I have 2 "divitercula" (sp!) that could be there from birth or I've acquired them...Anyway, wanted to say "hi"! I hope to read more! D

Definately know people like that...and I'm sure I've done it too unfortunately. It's hard to enjoy being lazy when someone is showing us it's not that hard.

I'm with queen mutha...I think that's the problem with diet saboteurs...if we didn't have tendancies towards this then they wouldn't matter!

May we all be able to ignore these people! or, ignore it in ourselves!

There are so many people I have to distance myself from because of this. Thank you for the post, I really needed to see it. I am putting up a copy on my desk & fridge!
