Got a new book

The article in Woman's Health I was talking about was based on excerpts from the book "The Abs Diet." Today at the bookstore I saw that book and then saw "the Abs Diet: Eat Right Every Time Guide" for just $8 so I bought it. It has "789 Best On-the-Go Food Choices, Complete Supermarket Survival Guide, and 60 Minute Meals for a Six-Pack." (Taken directly from the front of the book.) Sally, maybe there's something in this list you like! ;-)

Almonds and other nuts
Beans and legumes
Spinach and other green vegetables

Dairy (fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese)
Instant oatmeal (unsweetened, unflavored)
Eggs
Turkey and other lean eats

Peanut butter
Olive oil
Whole-grain breads and cereals
Extra-protein (whey) powder
Raspberries and other berries

Everything I keep reading lately is pretty much saying the same thing. Eat often and healthy. And they pretty much recommend the same kinds of foods. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet (even though he does use that word.) I like having the restaurant survival guide in this book, too. So here's another thing I'm recommending. Go out and get this book! :-D

I keep reading the same thing too. I bought that "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" e-book off the internet and got pretty much the same advice as I did in "Body For Life" and "The 3 Hour Diet" and this Abs Diet thing (which I just read about in a women's magazine in the supermarket the other day) sounds like the same thing too... it's all the same advice. And good advice... a little hard to implement though.

It really IS a lifestyle change and not a diet. I am pretty aware now that refined sugars and white flours and rice are the enemy and that I should try to eat as little sugar and as much organic, whole grain content as a I possibly can.

Mostly, that's easy for me since I like those types of foods... however, as far as I can tell, cheesecake and pizza are not on this diet. So it is bad when I get cravings (which hit at least once a week)... does it count if I make the pizza place do a whole wheat crust? ;-)

Oh, on the Abs Diet, one meal every week you can eat WHATEVER you want. Sounds like a night for pizza and cheesecake to me! ;-) Now that is something I can handle.

The last diet book I bought was "You: on a Diet". One recomendation that I liked was to try to eat the same thing every day so you're not obsessing over choices. I have about 3 breakfast options and it's really helped me eat breakfast quickly every day.

Gosh, that list seems easy enough to remember! But I wonder if instead of the "S" in ABS being for spinach, do you think it could be for Snickers? :)

Ooh, Jodi, I like the way you think!!! ;-) I made a grocery store run yesterday and loaded the cart with things he suggested. Plus high calorie stuff for my underweight teenagers. I think the checkers probably think I'm schizophrenic! LOL

It is a lifestyle change, isn't it? A couple of years ago I went on the Slimming World diet and got down to a weight I felt realy good at; I've now put on at least a stone and feel yucky! I think I might try and follow your progress and note mine as well, if that's all right?
But I'm refusing to weigh for a week or two!

Thank you for the recommendation!

If I get a minute, I will definitely pick this book up, it sounds like something realistic for me to work on. And maybe get the whole family involved, too!

Hey MBJ, the one problem with this list is that I have to remember portions. I can get myself into trouble no matter what, whether it's too many Reeses Peanut Butter Cups or too many pieces of avocado, handfuls of almonds, etc. I think the key with me is portion size because I'm a "bulk eater".

As far as healthy foods, though, I highly agree w/ the list.

all the best to you!

Yes, Gretchen, you can't sit and eat a whole jar of Peanut Butter or cups and cups of almonds. But if you are eating high protein every 3 hours, you kind of lose the desire to eat very much at any one time.
